Fertility Awareness Week: My Top Tools and Tips for Your Fertility Journey

In honor of fertility awareness week, I would like to share some favorite tools I frequently recommend to patients and have used on my own fertility journey. Whether you are just starting on your fertility journey, been on it for a while, or are contemplating starting your journey, these tools can help improve your sense of ease and ultimate success.

Before we dive into some of my favorite fertility tools I would first like to share a little advice and a few helpful tips. These tips are based on the struggles I have seen with my patients and also my own experience with a miscarriage. With implementing these tips, I have seen a huge difference in outcomes.

A Few Expert Fertility Tips and Advice:

  1. Focus on the now. This can be hard at first; the past and the future are easy to become preoccupied with. When I first had my miscarriage I was so focused on what could happen or what the miscarriage might mean about future pregnancies. As soon as I focused my attention on the steps I could take day to day rather than strictly focusing on the outcome, my reality changed and led me to a beautiful pregnancy.
  2. Slow Down (as much as you can). Stress and pregnancy don’t mesh well. In pregnancy you are entering this beautiful feminine stage. In this stage the focus is ideally on creating (nourishing your baby), rest, and relaxation. If you practice slowing down beforehand, your fertility journey will come with more ease.
  3. Keep it simple. There are many fertility enhancing treatments out there which is wonderful, but it can be overwhelming. Being overwhelmed is the exact opposite of what you want because it puts you in a stressed out state. You can start with the list I’ve curated below. You can also consider consulting an expert, whether that is your medical doctor, fertility awareness specialist, or naturopathic doctor (like myself) about what tools to utilize can make your fertility journey less stressful.
  4. Don’t compare and ruminate on other women’s experiences… and get off social media.  Your story is unlike any other story on this planet. Comparing isn’t worth your time and energy.  Comparisons do not serve your or your future baby’s best interest. It can be a difficult practice at first, but for your mental and emotional well being, send best wishes and intentions to the women you are comparing yourself to, then move on.  It can be helpful to delete social media apps from your phone and other devices.  Although these apps can be a fun distraction and a way to keep up with friends, they invite constant comparison.  Focus on yourself and wellbeing during this beautiful journey, you deserve it.

2 Tools and 2 Practices to Support Your Fertility Journey

  1. Tempdrop to help track ovulation
  • This is an easy to use armband that helps you track ovulation.
  • There are several fertility tracking methods out there. I like to keep it simple by using Tempdrop as a basal body temperature (BBT) tracker. The BBT method helps to track ovulation which will help you determine your fertility window (the days you should prioritize sexual intercourse with your partner).
  • Traditional BBT thermometers will have you take your temperature around the same time every morning while you are still in bed. This can get stressful for a number of reasons: you have to remember to do it first thing upon waking, you aren’t supposed to have much motion before the reading, and you have to plan your wake-up routine around it. With Tempdrop, you just place the band around your upper arm before you go to bed. The Tempdrop band will track your temperature through the night while you are sleeping. Tempdrop also utilizes an easy to use app where all your temperature readings will be synced and charted . Now that is keeping it simple.
  • Tempdrop is a relatively small investment for fertility support.  You can use it for years to come even when you are not trying to conceive.  Tracking your BBT can be part of data tracking to  help prevent pregnancy and it can also be used to make sure you are maintaining a healthy cycle. BBT can also give you insights into thyroid health.
  • By clicking this link you’ll receive 15% off a Tempdrop device. This offer can be stacked onto any sale they are currently having. Ex: if they are having 20% of you can get 35% off by purchasing through the link below. Tempdrop is CURRENTLY HAVING A SALE for fertility awareness week, April 20-26, 2025.
  1. Pre-Mom Ovulation (LH) strips
  • LH test strips plus Tempdrop make a great combination when TTC (trying to conceive). LH stripes help to determine when you are ovulating by tracking LH (luteinizing hormone) surges. When LH surges,  the ovaries are stimulated to release a mature egg.
  • Pre-Mom is cost effective and allows you to have access to a free app which will keep all your LH test strip data.
  • Purchase Pre-Mom Ovulatory strips here.

  1. Womb Meditation
  • Meditation not only helps you to relax,  it puts your focus back into your body where all the magic and miracles of fertility happens.
  • I frequently recommend this one to  my fertility patients.
  1. Diaphragmatic Breathing
  • Breathing has a vast number of health benefits from improving digestion, to improving mental and emotional well being, detoxifying the body, reducing stress, and more. Conscious diaphragmatic breathing can promote your body to return to a parasympathetic state (rest and digest state) rather than a sympathetic state (fight or flight state).  The majority of people in the US spend most of their time in a sympathetic state.  The parasympathetic state is more pro-fertility.
  • For this breathing technique you will sit up right in a chair. For beginners, place one hand on your belly and the other one on your chest. The hand that is on your chest shouldn’t move while breathing but the hand that is on the belly should expand outward with an inhale and inward with in exhale. Repeat at least three times. A great tool to use is an app called Breathing Zone which will help you time out your inhale and exhale while doing diaphragmatic breathing.

Wanting to Add More Natural Fertility Support?

If you’d like to add a little more support, I recommend one or more of the following:

  1. DNA Vibe: DNA vibes is a red light therapy device. Red light therapy can stimulate mitochondrial function which will help with oocyte (egg) maturation. It also enhances circulation which creates an enhanced environment for implantation of an embryo. DNA vibe gently supports DNA and is able to penetrate more deeply than most other red light therapy on the market, especially at the price point.  Fun fact: Your ovaries hold the most mitochondria along with your heart and muscles. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell.  In the ovary they help with maturation of the egg, fertilization of the egg, and early embryo development. If you are actively trying to conceive, use it in the first half of your cycle over the lower abdomen. Purchase here.
  2. Earthing or Grounding: Earthing, also known as grounding, refers to connecting with the earth to harness its natural electrical potential for healing. This can be done through putting your bare feet on the earth or through a grounding device. It shifts your nervous system into a parasympathetic (see notes under diaphragmatic breathing). You can think of grounding as a charger for your body that helps to restore balance to your system. Going outside to put your feet into soil or natural grass (non-treated grass) can help improve your stress responses. Improving your stress response can help improve fertility outcomes.  If you are unable to go out doors daily for grounding,  you can use a grounding mat. These mats can be used under your feet while you work, meditate or do yoga. You can also sleep with a grounding sheet to sleep on. You can purchase a grounding mat for work, here.  You can purchase a grounding mat to sleep on, here.
  1. Read The 9 Golden Months:  This is a great book to read to help you understand the nourishment and rest you need to give your body both before and during pregnancy. I highly recommend reading this book.  Purchase the book, here.

I hope this helps you on your fertility journey with the best success. Wherever you are at in your fertility journey I send you all the love to get the pregnancy and outcomes you desire.
