The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother by Heng Ou, Amely Greeven, and Marisa Belger
Women often put much thought into how they are nourishing themselves when they’re working on conception and when they’re pregnant. We don’t always put as much thought into how we will be nourished during the first months of having a new baby. Women are particularly vulnerable to the effects of hormonal irregularities and they’re more susceptible to the development or relapse of chronic disease, like autoimmune conditions, during the months following the birth of their children. There is also the pressure to return to life as usual as quickly as possible. It is important that new mothers continue to receive extra nourishment during those first months after giving birth. This book offers support for this through the lens of the traditional Chinese concept of zuo yuezi, a period in which a woman remains at home focusing on healing and bonding with her baby. The book includes stories and insights from the author’s own experience as well as practical tips, suggestions for rituals, and recipes for foods and herbal teas. Don’t wait until you’ve given birth to get this book! You’ll want to read and prepare a couple of months before your due date.

Super Foods
Dandy Blend Original and Organic
This is the best herbal alternative to coffee on the market. For those of you that love the richness of coffee but can’t do the caffeine, this makes a great alternative. It has a much bolder body to it than most other coffee alternatives. It is powdered, resembling instant coffee, all you need to do is add hot water for a perfect cup. Depending on how much you use it even gets a crema like top! Dandy Blend has a slight bitter taste to it, as coffee does, which is beneficial for our digestive tract. Dandelion, the main ingredient had many benefits, especially for the liver and GI. Dandy Blend makes a great latte! Dr. Enos likes mixing it with Laird’s Super Food Creamers in seasonal flavors to create herbal pumpkin spice and peppermint lattes. It is also delicious mixed with chocolate LMNT and a little MCT oil for a more mocha like flavor. We often uses more than the recommended one tsp; experiment with 1-3 tsp to find your perfect Dandy Blend to water ratio. Dandy Blend does contain rye and barely extracts but the extraction process removes gluten and has been tested to ensure this.
